Uzumaki has a special place in my heart as the first manga that I ever read. With that being said I don't want there to be a bias, so I re-read my favorite Uzumaki chapters to see how they hold up.
I've read 15 other works from Junji Ito (at the time of writing this*) and I can say that Uzumaki is one that I could not put down until the very end. Trying to figure out what was going on in that town kept my wife and I occupied for the entirety of the read.
Over all, the collection of stories in Uzumaki were very intriguing and well paced. Upon re-reading the book for this review I can say it's also some of the most disturbing works that Ito has written. I highly recommend giving this one a read if you haven't already.

Afterword:
There was an attempt at turning Uzumaki into an anime. I watched the first two episodes out of four and was genuinely sad that it turned out the way it did. I was too disappointed to watch any more. The art itself was fine but I think you lose the "reveal" of the page turn that makes so much of Junji Ito's work so good. It also suffered from inconsistent quality of the animation from episode to episode.
In the year of our lord 2000 (Uzumaki) the motion picture was released. I have yet to watch it but because of the anime I'm hesitant to.
Manga is possibly the best medium that Junji Ito's Horror can exist in.
